Plate Heat Exchangers
A plate heat exchanger transfers heat between two fluids using corrugated metal plates between a fixed frame and a movable pressure plate - efficient, compact, and more effective than traditional shell-and-tube units.
Construction
Corrugated plates stacked between frame plates; each plate has a gasket that creates separate paths and prevents fluid mixing.
How heat moves
Fluids flow in alternating channels - hot on one side of a plate, cold on the other - so heat passes through the metal without the fluids touching.
Turbulence
The wavy plate design creates mixing motion in narrow channels, which improves heat transfer performance.
Advantage
Higher efficiency than shell-and-tube exchangers in many duties - dairy, HVAC, chemical, and process cooling.
